Countertops

CountertopResidential Countertop - Verdi Color

Why would you choose Concrete Countertops?
If you appreciate the artistic value and aesthetic appeal in the subtle variations in color and the imperfections that occur when casting in concrete, or if you enjoy the look and feel of limestone or marble, you will treasure the versatility and durability of this unique medium.

How do we make our Concrete Countertops?
Our countertops are all pre-cast at our facility. A template is made, either by us or your installer/contractor, to use in developing a form that duplicates the conditions at your home or business. The countertops are made of cement, aggregates and additives, such as coloring. Structural steel or wire mesh is used as reinforcement. The countertops are poured and allowed to cure in place. Depending on the finish chosen, the countertops are then sealed and waxed or a grinding/polishing tool may be used first, to remove the "cream" (top layer of skin) from the top of the countertop in order to produce a polished effect before sealing is done.

How much do Concrete Countertops weigh?
At the standard thickness of 2", the slab weighs approximately 25.00 lbs. per square foot (similar to granite). In most cases, standard wood cabinets will support this weight.

Are there size limitations?
Our maximum size to install would be a 10' long x 2' wide concrete countertop.

What about seams?
Seams in concrete countertops are similar to those in natural stone countertops. Joints are incorporated to accommodate the design and handling of the countertop and can even become part of the design itself. In most cases, seams are filled with color matching caulk.

How much do Concrete Countertops cost?
Concrete Countertops should be considered as a custom product. Although concrete is usually thought of as being inexpensive, due to their handcrafted nature of Concrete Countertops, they should not to be considered as a low cost product. Prices tend to be competitive to that of granite countertops, depending on the conditions, color and finish selected.
Quotes are given based on the particular job's requirements. Countertops with more than a 2" thickness, irregular or radius shapes, integral drain boards, built in trivets, custom edges and back splashes will cost extra. Countertops made with colors other than our Standard Colors may cost extra, depending on the color chosen.
For projects not in our area, you would need to consider the cost of shipping and installation. Installation should only be done by an installer/contractor who is experienced in installing concrete countertops.

What colors and textures are available with Concrete Countertops?
Countertops can be produced in a wide range of colors using integral mineral coloring. Please be aware that colors of the actual countertop may vary from the Sample, as this is the nature of concrete. Standard Color Samples (1" x 3") cost $25.00 each. Custom Color Samples (1" x 3") cost $55.00 each. Note: This cost will be deducted from the price of the Countertop after your order has been placed. If samples are returned, this cost will be refunded to you.

How do you clean Concrete Countertops?
Avoid abrasive cleaners or pads. Use only mild, non-ammonia soaps (such as Simple Green or Dr. Bronner's) for daily cleaning.

Will Concrete Countertops stain?
Although sealers are applied, staining can occur if the sealer is compromised by cutting on them or by placing hot pots or pans on their surface, or if water is left standing for extended periods of time. We cannot be held liable for stains or discolorations that occur after installation.

Where should you place your hot pots and pans?
Trivets of stainless steel, brass or copper can be built into the Concrete Countertop to help prevent damage to the sealer, or you can simply use hot plates or pads.

Do Concrete Countertops crack? Can they be patched?
Concrete Countertops can develop hairline cracks. These cracks are non-structural and are a result of shrinkage. Reinforcing the concrete cannot prevent this cracking. These cracks are not deep enough to trap food particles and are part of the character of concrete and the reason for the appeal, as opposed to plastic surfaces. Concrete Countertops can be patched; however, patching will only take away from the appeal of having concrete countertops and in most cases, it will appear obvious that a patch has been done.
